How Sun and MySQL are Driving MySQL Performance and Scalability

MySQL has a history of scalability challenges on systems with more than 4 cores. Today most 2 socket systems fall into that category, and CPU core counts are continually increasing. This session outlines the steps Sun and MySQL have been taking to improve performance and scalability. The primary focus for this effort has been on Intel, AMD, and SPARC systems running the Linux and OpenSolaris operating systems. Scalability and performance will be examined on each of these platforms, along with examples of performance fixes and results.

An important question is how end users can get access to these improvements. We will discuss the new MySQL performance release, describe its features, and explain how to get hold of it. We will also suggest best practices for optimal performance. The performance implications of using other interesting Sun technologies like ZFS and Containers/Zones will also be discussed.
