One of the newest and most eagerly awaited features of the MySQL server is Online Backup. This tutorial presents an overview of the existing backup options (included tools and third party tools) as well as how the new Online Backup features compare.
The presentation will cover topics such as architecture of the backup system, details of the features available in the first release, a list of future enhancements, and best practices for protecting your data.
The presentation will close with a demonstration of the features of Online Backup available in the next release of the MySQL server.
Dr. Charles A. Bell conducts research in emerging technologies and agile development techniques. He works for Sun Microsystems as a senior software engineer on the backup and replication team. He is currently one of the principle developers of the backup system. His contributions to the backup system include the new logging mechanism, the default drivers, and numerous minor enhancements. Working exclusively on the Windows platform, he is also the resident Windows expert for the team.
