Practical Character Sets

Domas Mituzas (Sun Microsystems)
General
Location: Ballroom G

Internet penetration in whole world opens applications and databases to many languages and scripts. Though Unicode seems to be the silver bullet, it introduces quite a few problems in whole stack – from browser to database internals, and still comes in multiple flavors.

This talk merges experience from supporting international customer base, as well as working on multilingual projects – character set conversion issues, performance impact, limitations, security concerns and more.
