In 2006 Amazon announced EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) as a limited beta. The concept – Linux Virtual servers, with an API to scale your computing resources within minutes. You pay only for what you need (from 10 cents per instance hour).

Now in 2007, the beta program is open to all, with more instance types available for deployment. Some resources like CPU, memory and instance storage are dedicated to a particular instance, while other resources like the network and the disk subsystem are shared among instances. So how suitable is this for MySQL Scale out?

This talk will include benchmarks on EC2, example topologies, and the war stories and limitations discovered while deploying an application.
