MySQL has had both User Defined Functions and User Defined Aggregates for a long time. Both can be used to create complex data manipulation tools that can process the large scale data normally associated with a data warehouse much faster than almost all other techniques. Learn how to use User Defined Functions and Aggregates to quickly perform complex functions on large sets of data and to turn complex multijoin queries that itinerarize networks or traverse trees into a single 1 table scan. The program includes a short overview on creating a UDF or a UDA and then runs through several examples using real User Defined Functions and Aggregates to solve real-world problems in a high-performance Data Warehouse environment.
Brian Miezejewski is a Principal consultant for MySQL with over 25 years of database and software development experience. His experience includes Director of Data Architecture & Systems at travelweb.com and Senior Principal Architect for the American Airlines Enterprise data warehouse. He has led the development of multiple data warehouses over 4TB in size.
Mark Atwood is an employee of Network.com at Sun Microsystems, where he works on Drizzle and other cloud computing technologies. He was formerly a member of MySQL Professional Services, specializing in custom server hacks. He is a coauthor of the OAuth Core specification. He has been involved in projects to build large self-configuring internet networks, including a widely deployed net-connected CATV consumer appliance, a PSTN internet application, and a Mil-Spec decision support intel application. He lives in Seattle.
