Web databases have destroyed old practices and rules and introduced a new world of problems. Shift from throughput to response computing demands different schemas, more efficient queries, and better understanding how database engines process data.
This talk covers indexing, schema and query design, application development and feature trade-off management and other practices, that came up in Wikipedia development (and support engineer work).
Exploiting MySQL-specific features and behavior helps to have extremely efficient access to data and serve users instantly – and really worth sharing.
